Gregory Clement Perkins
1952-2016
KANSAS CITY, MO: Gregory Clement Perkins, 64, was born March 27, 1952 in Fort Jackson, South Carolina the son of Wayne Eldon and Winonnia Jean (Junge) Perkins passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Gower Convalescent Center, Gower, MO.
Greg was the oldest child of Wayne and Jean Perkins. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, Wayne Eldon and Bernice Perkins, Arnold and Viola Junge; his loving mother, Jean; little brother, Stephen; and great niece Addalyn.
Greg spent most of his life in Northern Missouri where he grew up on a farm outside of Hatfield. Greg was very active in 4-H and FFA. He spent most of his summers at the county fairs showing calves and sheep. Greg was a great showman and enjoyed winning many championship ribbons. He was the first to sell his show calf at the Northwest Missouri State Fair for a whopping $1.36 per pound, far above what anyone expected.
Greg was very involved with the Boy Scout troop in Eagleville and reached the highest rank of Eagle Scout attainable by only 4% of all boy scouts. He was also a Mic O Say Tribe member where he spent many hours making an elaborate costume needed to perform in ceremonies in the area.
Greg graduated from North Harrison High School in 1970 and received a degree in Agri-Business from Trenton Community College. Following graduation, Greg worked at the Lamoni Sale Barn for 30 years as a yard manager where he maintained long lasting friendships.
Greg followed in his dad’s footsteps and joined the Masonic Lodge in Winston, MO.
He married Donna Craig and left the small town of Lamoni and moved to Kansas City, MO. They later divorced. After moving to Kansas City, Greg worked in the grocery business until recently.
Greg loved to hang out with his friends and spent many hours playing in poker leagues at Boomers. Each Christmas, Greg loved to dress up as Santa to entertain the local patrons.
Greg loved to follow sports and enjoyed watching the Royals and Chiefs play with friends. He loved to watch Nascar races and had an extensive collection of memorabilia that he proudly displayed at his home. His favorite racers were Dale Earnhardt and Kevin Harvick.
He is survived by his son, Jeff Carpenter (Carrie), Blue Springs, MO; father, Wayne Perkins (friend, Ann Burrows) Eagleville, MO; sisters, Pam Wagnor and John, Newton, IA, Jan DePriest and Don, St. Joseph, MO; brother, Dennis Perkins, Hatfield, MO; and several nieces, nephews and friends who will miss his smile and one of a kind laugh.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 2 at Roberson Funeral Home, Eagleville, MO. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Masonic Cemetery, Eagleville, MO. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, Liberty, MO and from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Roberson Funeral Home, Eagleville, MO.
