David Ashburn, 52, of Malcom, died on Monday, January 25, 2016, of injuries that he received in an automobile accident in rural Tama County, Iowa.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2016, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Memorials may be directed to the David Ashburn Memorial Fund and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.
David was born on January 11, 1964, in Des Moines, Iowa to Leonard and Victoria Maliwat Ashburn. The family lived in various Iowa communities before moving to Eagleville, Missouri. He graduated from Eagleville High School.
On September 8, 1984, he was married to Bobbi Moore in Carroll, Iowa. The couple lived in Carroll before moving to Malcom in 1986. He was employed as a welder for the Donaldson Company for 28 years. After the closure of the Donaldson Company in the fall of 2015, he purchased one half interest of the Gilman Tap.
David enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved his family and spending time with his friends.
Survivors include his wife, Bobbi Ashburn of Malcom; two daughters, Melissa (Agbe) Houngblame of Cedar Rapids and Allison Ashburn of Malcom; his mother, Vicky Ashburn of Ottumwa; and one sister, Phyllis (Mark) Cullinan of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by his father.
